Love him or hate him, you know his name: Karl Lagerfeld has an undeniable dominance in the fashion world. As a designer, artist, and photographer in the industry for more than 50 years, Karl Lagerfeld knows more than a thing or two about the fashion business and he doesn’t hesitate to let the world know it. The silver-haired designer behind the black glasses and high-starched collars is known for candidly expressing his opinions on all matters ranging from personal style to tattoos. We’ve compiled some of the most infamous Karl Lagerfeld quotes that best demonstrate his outspokenness and natural knack for stirring the pot.
“ I’m very much down to Earth, just not this Earth.”
“I hate nothing more than ‘the good old days’, it makes the present second-hand.”
“Why should I stop working? If I do, I’ll die and it’ll all be finished.”
“The only love that I really believe in is a mother’s love for her children.”
“Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.”
“Be politically correct, but please don’t bother other people with conversation about being politically correct, because that’s the end of everything. You want to create boredom? Be politically correct in your conversation.”
“Never use the word “cheap”. Today everybody can look chic in inexpensive clothes (the rich buy them too). There is good clothing design on every level today. You can be the chicest thing in the world in a T-shirt and jeans - it’s up to you.”
“I hate intellectual conversation with intellectuals because I only care about my opinion.”
“Having adult children makes you look 100 years old. I don’t want that”
“I’m kind of a fashion nymphomaniac who never gets an orgasm.”
“I love to be creative all the time… If not I would be bored, and boredom is a crime.”
“I think tattoos are horrible. It’s like living in a Pucci dress full-time.”
“Personality begins where comparison ends.”
“In a meat-eating world, wearing leather for shoes and even clothes, the discussion of fur is childish.”
“When I was four I asked my mother for a valet for my birthday.”
“A sense of humour and a little lack of respect: that’s what you need to make a legend survive.”

A few weeks ago, I stumbled across this photo on instagram, and WOW did it take me back!
I was lucky enough to be invited onto the set of this shoot by a video photographer friend of mine. My first time at a photo shoot, ever- It was 1986, and I was 22 years old. I was wearing a black parachute jumpsuit, and if you can believe it, it was the first time I had ever heard a CD player- Bryan Ferry was playing. It was also the first time I had ever seen a stylist worried about returning jewelry to Saks 5th Avenue. The makeup artist, Axl, also made jewelry, which mostly consisted of Gothic Silver rings with eyes inlayed in them, and he had a tattooed tooth (so ‘86!). For the shoot he glued these pave encrusted Vampire fangs on Iman’s teeth, and at the end of day- they would NOT come off! A dentist had to be called in to remove them, but Iman kept her cool. The photo turned out beautifully, and timeless, and I was so glad to be apart of it. Years later, working with Iman through nOir, I reminded her of the shoot and she just laughed. What a great memory! Thanks so much Lynn Ban Jewelry for sharing.
New York Fashion Week is the ultimate showcase for the world’s fashion elite, and as usual The Blonds delivered a jaw-dropping performance. Once again Noir had the pleasure of collaborating with our favorite design duo, who debuted a luxe collection inspired by notable Warner Brothers characters. Check out our pictures from a show that was truly out-of-this-world!
A few months ago we had the privilege of traveling all the way to Paris, to participate in the fashion trade show, Tranoi.
Between the parties, the food, the fashion and the art, we were beside ourselves in creative bliss. Take a peek at some of the pictures below of our extravagant journey.
When attending a show such as The Blonds what you wear has to be show stopper! Here are some photos we snapped off the runway! These kinds of outfits are better showed then explained.
Now that New York Fashion week has come and gone we would like to put a stop light on a show of which we once again had the pleasure of collaborating with for the sixth consecutive season. So many of you may know The Blonds as the over the top, one of a kind type and this season was no exception.
Using classic horror movies such as Psycho, The Birds, and The Shining as inspiration Philippe and David Blond created looks that are to die for! Every detail on the runway from the Jack Nicholson nails to the blood spatter corsets gave a new meaning to “Psycho Chic.” And did we mention the white fur straightjacket!?!?! If only straightjackets were this glamorous we would all declare ourselves insane.
Check out some of the photos from the show and tell us what you think!
Wishing all of our friends, family, and fans a Wonderful HOLIDAY this season!!
One of my favorite things on earth is sharing my obsessions with my friends, my family, and fans of nOir. I love the ability to express my passions with you on this blog
If you know me, you know that my love for Diana Vreeland goes way back to her days as a consultant at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I have admired her for years, and I’m positive that my obsession with red and leopard stem from her. She was so much the quintessential Editor, that she actually, in fact, coined the term Editor after working at both Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue.
Always the keen eye, Miss Vreeland discovered Twiggy, Cher, Lauren Bacall, and spent time styling Fashion Icon, Jackie O.
Here’s me in my custom Diana Vreeland T-shirt (P.S. I no longer smoke! A bad habit I gave up years ago )
Vreeland has always fascinated and inspired me. I’ve followed and researching her for years, but after recently watching her Documentary, The Eye Has to Travel (a MUST see), I found out that she and I share the love of surfing and skateboard culture. What I adore, is that, although immersed in Fashion, Diana was all about style.
In 1936, Diana started her Column for Harper’s Bazaar called “Why don’t you” - some of my favorites include:
Why don’t you knit yourself a little skullcap?
Why don’t you rinse your blond child’s hair in dead champagne to keep its gold, as they do in France?
Why don’t you wear violet velvet mittens with everything?
Here are some interesting tears from Diana’s instructional list for lunch orders, etc.
Some of my favorite quotes from Diana:
On secrets: keep you r secrets…that’s you power over others
On Memory: I never remember anything unpleasant …remember that!
On Money: Money can do horrible things to ignorant people
On fashion: They call this a fashion magazine? This isn’t fashion …..Its available merchandise
On heaven: ….a place with no paper, no pencils, no pens
Diana Examining a pearl.

Here’s the trailer for her Documentary…. I’m OBSESSED:
